Symposium Scholarships
Scholarship opportunities are available to students who seek funding to help cover the costs of participation in the Northwest Horn Symposium. These scholarships are intended to cover registration fees for the symposium and, in some cases, travel expenses. Registration fees will be paid via transfer of funds from the NWHS scholarship account to the registration account. Travel expenses will be presented to the student in the form of a check at the symposium. Students are encouraged to contact the scholarship coordinator if other accommodations should be considered. All scholarship awardees will be recognized at the Northwest Horn Society annual meeting.
Northwest Horn Society Scholarship
Northwest Horn Society scholarships are available to students who meet the following requirements: (1) currently enrolled in school grades 7-12 or college/university, (2) a member of the Northwest Horn Society, and (2) able to attend all three days of the symposium. Scholarship applicants must submit a letter stating their background, why attending the NwHS Symposium is important to them, and describing why they are in need of financial aid, as well as a letter of recommendation from a music teacher (private or school related).
Please email these materials to the NwHS scholarship coordinator, Martin King, at martin.king@wsu.edu.
Scholarship applications will be evaluated by the NwHS scholarship coordinator and at least one other NwHS member who did not submit a letter of recommendation for any applicant. The applicants will be evaluated on the basis of financial need and the potential value to the student of attending the symposium. The number of scholarships awarded will vary from year to year depending on the quality of the applicants and the amount of scholarship funds available.
The priority deadline to apply for scholarships is 14 days before the early registration deadline of the symposium. Applications after this deadline will be considered.
Barry Tuckwell Scholarship
This is an award that is given by the International Horn Society to cover costs of up to $500 for the attendance of a workshop or symposium. Visit www.hornsociety.org for more information.
